MANILA, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Three elderly people have been killed and two others critically injured after their car hit a concrete post along a highway in Laguna province, south of Manila, police said Monday.

Police said the accident happened around 6 p.m. local time Sunday while the group, which included people in their 60s and 70s, was traveling south to Quezon province.

Initial investigation showed that the vehicle carrying five people swerved to the opposite lane and crashed into a concrete roadside post.

The injured female driver and another passenger were unconscious in a local hospital, police added.

Police were investigating what caused the fatal accident. Enditem
