MANILA, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Wednesday approved a 250-million-U.S.-dollar policy-based loan to strengthen Bangladesh's social protection system.
Building on the first Strengthening Social Resilience Program completed in June 2022, the ADB said the second program helps improve Bangladesh's social protection policy and regulatory and institutional environment.
"The program will help improve efficiency in the social protection program management," said ADB Principal Social Sector Specialist Hiroko Uchimura-Shiroishi, adding that it will also integrate climate adaptive measures into social protection to strengthen resilience against climate vulnerability.
Another aim of the program is to strengthen the governance mechanism of the employment injury scheme pilot, focusing on the ready-made garments sector.
The ADB will provide 2 million dollars in grants to support program implementation, technical and policy analyses, and capacity building of relevant government agencies. Enditem
