HANOI, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam exported 114,424 tons of pepper worth 493.1 million U.S. dollars in the first five months of this year, Vietnam News Agency reported Monday, citing the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

The export turnover declined 13.2 percent in volume but surged 20.6 percent in value over the same period last year, said the report.

The average export price of black pepper is 4,197 dollars per ton and white pepper is 5,804 dollars per ton, up 754 dollars and 849 dollars respectively compared to the same period in 2023.

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association predicted that the country's pepper production this year will reach the lowest volume in the past five years at only about 170,000 tons.

Last year, Vietnam's pepper export volumes surged 16.6 percent to 267,000 tons. Enditem
