VILNIUS, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A rare sight was seen by Lithuania's border guards when a bear walked along the Lithuanian border fence and attacked it, the guards said recently.

In an undated video published by the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) of Lithuania last weekend, the bear was spotted on camera when it briefly attacked the border fence with Belarus, before jumping headfirst into the river on the Lithuanian side, and disappearing into the night.

"The bear tested the strength of a single metal pole equipped with a surveillance camera and a spotlight," the VSAT said in a press release, adding that "the bear found the experiment to be enough and no longer tested the quality of other infrastructure."

Bears are rarely spotted in the Baltic states. In Lithuania, they usually enter the country from Belarus and Latvia.

The Baltic country which sees the most brown bears is Estonia, according to wildlife experts. Enditem
