KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The sales value of the manufacturing sector in Malaysia rose by 5.7 percent, reaching a value of 153.2 billion ringgit (32.45 billion U.S. dollars) in April, official data showed Monday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the increase was mainly propelled by sales in the sub-sectors of transport equipment and other manufactures (16.9 percent), non-metallic mineral products, basic metal and fabricated metal products (12.8 percent), as well as electrical and electronics products (2.7 percent).
Nonetheless, the manufacturing sector sales value contracted by 3.3 percent from 158.4 billion ringgit registered in the preceding month.
The sales value of export-oriented industries, which contributed 69.9 percent of total sales, turned upward by 3.4 percent compared to a negative 0.1 percent in March.
For the first four months, the sales value of the manufacturing sector reached 610.6 billion ringgit, an increase of 2.7 percent from the same period of 2023. (1 ringgit equals 0.21 U.S. dollar) Enditem
