GABORONE, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian Airlines Group on Monday launched a new flight to Botswana's tourist destination of Maun, located about 1,200 km northwest of Gaborone, the country's capital.
Maun, endowed with magnificent flora and fauna, is the second destination in the southern African country to be serviced by Ethiopian Airlines Group.
"This will serve as a major boost to our country's economy and the development will go a long way in increasing trade and tourism," Aubrey Lesaso, assistant minister in Botswana's Ministry of Communications, Knowledge and Technology, said during the launching ceremony.
Mesfin Tasew, chief executive officer of Ethiopian Airlines Group, said the airline is committed to its pan-African roots and will continue to connect every part of Africa and beyond.
"We are thrilled to announce that Maun, the tourism capital of Botswana, has joined our vast network," said Tasew, adding that this expansion deepens Ethiopian Airlines' presence in Botswana.
According to Tasew, the new route provides convenient and seamless connectivity for travelers from Ethiopia and other parts of Africa to the popular tourist destination of Maun, which is the gateway to the Okavango Delta, an enormous watery oasis home to vast concentrations of wildlife. Enditem
