TOKYO -- Japan marked its first "extremely hot day" on Wednesday as the temperature hit 35 degrees Celsius in Fukushima Prefecture, according to the weather agency.

The mercury jumped to 35.2 degrees Celsius around 1:55 p.m. local time in the city of Date, Fukushima Prefecture, constituting an "extremely hot day" where the temperature rises above 35 degrees Celsius, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said. (Japan-Heat)

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia and Laos have signed several cooperation agreements, according to the Mongolian presidential office's website on Tuesday evening.

These documents, including a memorandum to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the health and medicine sector, a protocol on hygiene requirements for the export of goods derived from livestock, and a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in civil service reform, were signed in the Mongolian capital, Ulan Bator, in the presence of Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh and his visiting Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith. KABUL -- Afghanistan's security forces have discovered weapons and ammunition caches in northern Takhtar and Baghlan provinces, the country's Ministry of National Defense said in a statement Wednesday.

A number of weapons including 23 Kalashnikovs, five PK machine guns, three rocket launchers, five hand grenades, one M16 machine gun and four U.S.-made mines have been seized in Baghlan, said the statement. (Afghanistan-Military-Weapons)

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka Cabinet approved a proposal by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to implement the national tariff policy in three phases from January 2025, the government's information department said on Wednesday.
