RAMALLAH, June 18 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian man was killed by Israeli gunfire in the West Bank city of Bethlehem, the Palestinian Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
The ministry said in a statement that the Palestinian Civil Affairs Authority, which coordinates with Israel on civilian matters, informed it of the death of 39-year-old Bilal Adel Ballo, who succumbed to his injuries after being shot by the Israeli army.
Eyewitnesses and local Palestinian sources said that an Israeli force fired at Ballo at the entrance of the town of Beit Fajjar, south of Bethlehem.
Israeli media reported that the Palestinian man, carrying a knife, attempted to stab an Israeli soldier.
Since the current Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out in October 2023, more than 500 Palestinians have been killed across the West Bank and East Jerusalem by Israeli gunfire, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Enditem
