YANGON, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar Education Conference 2024, which kicked off on Tuesday, is in progress in the capital Nay Pyi Taw, the official daily The Mirror reported on Wednesday.

The conference, organized by the Ministry of Education and relevant ministries, will run from Tuesday to Thursday, the report said.

The main objective of the conference is to further promote education for the development of human resources, it said.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said that Myanmar needs to have many people get educated, as the most developed countries have many educated citizens, the report said.

He also said that every individual needs to complete at least a middle school education in their lives to align with the global landscape, stressing the role of pursuing higher education to help citizens emerge as well-versed individuals by improving their socio-economic status, the report said.

Members of Myanmar's State Administration Council, union ministers, deputy ministers, professors, resource persons, teachers and students also attended the opening event in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday, the report said.

In the 2024-25 academic year, Myanmar has 7.3 million students in the basic education schools across the country as of June 21, the report added. Enditem
