Blast at firecracker factory in India's Tamil Nadu kills 4

NEW DELHI, June 29 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed and several others injured Saturday in a massive explosion at a firecracker factory in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, officials said.

The blast took place in Banduvarpatti village near Sattur of Virudhunagar district, about 553 km southwest of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

According to police, the victims were working in the factory at the time of the explosion. The blast also triggered a blaze in the factory.

Following the incident, fire and rescue service personnel were rushed to the spot to contain the fire.

Officials said the factory had 15 rooms, with at least three of them being completely gutted in the fire.

Police have ordered an investigation into the explosion. Enditem
