CAIRO, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) has led the Asian country toward liberation and remarkable development, and promoted common prosperity while making it one of the world's top economies over the past century, said the secretary-general of the Egyptian Socialist Party (ESP) in a recent interview with Xinhua.

"The CPC played a major role in leading the Chinese people towards the liberation, progress, prosperity, and welfare they are experiencing now," said ESP chief Ahmed Bahaa El-Din Shaaban.

Shaaban's remarks came as the CPC, one of the world's largest governing parties with nearly 100 million members, is celebrating the 103rd anniversary of its establishment in 1921.

Shaaban said that he visited China several times in the past few years, most recently in 2023. He saw how villages were lifted out of poverty with the establishment of productive factories as part of the CPC's plans for poverty alleviation throughout China.

"We went to villages that were suffering from extreme poverty and saw how those villages were renovated and developed," he said, describing the elimination of extreme poverty throughout China as "a great miracle."

According to a 2022 report by the World Bank, China has lifted nearly 800 million people out of poverty over the past 40 years, contributing close to three-quarters of the global reduction in the number of people living in extreme poverty.

Besides poverty eradication, Shaaban listed a number of accomplishments made by the CPC over the past few decades, including boosting industry and fighting corruption, to improve the wellbeing of the Chinese people.

"More importantly, the CPC was able to achieve the technological revolution that brought China to the pinnacle of technical and scientific progress in the world," he said.

Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, the party's efforts did not stop at pursuing happiness for the Chinese people; rather, it extended to all the peoples of the world, according to the Egyptian socialist.

He took the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), proposed by China in 2013 for multilateral cooperation in all development fields, as an example of China's care to cooperate with all countries "to build a new, peaceful world" and "to achieve common prosperity for all."

"The BRI is an ideal example of the CPC's vision of common prosperity and sense of responsibility towards hundreds of millions of people around the world who seek progress," Shaaban said.

Lauding the CPC-led Chinese development experience as "a pioneering one," he said his party studies the history of the CPC, its discipline, management methods, and draws on its experience of fighting corruption.

The Egyptian party chief expected the CPC's second centenary to be marked by achieving further progress and advancing China to the forefront of the world. Enditem
