LUSAKA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- At least 27 people were killed and 78 others sustained serious injuries in a series of road traffic accidents across different regions of Zambia during the Heroes and Unity holiday spanning four days, the police said Wednesday.
The country recorded 319 road traffic accidents which occurred in different provinces of the country during the holiday season, including 25 fatal accidents.
Danny Mwale, the deputy spokesperson of the police, said the accidents recorded this year increased when compared to 308 accidents recorded during the same period last year. He attributed the growing accidents recorded to low compliance levels by motorists and motor cyclists.
The police spokesperson said Lusaka, the country's capital, recorded the highest number of the accidents with 106 accidents. Enditem
