"Despicable Me 4" tops North American box office on opening weekend

LOS ANGELES, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Universal and Illumination's animated comedy film "Despicable Me 4" topped the North American box office with an estimated three-day cume of 75 million U.S. dollars on its opening weekend, data from the measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday.

The film dominated the Fourth of July box office in North America with an estimated five-day opening of 122.6 million dollars since its debut on Wednesday. Internationally, the film took in 106.9 million through Sunday, bringing its global total to 229.5 million dollars.

Directed by Chris Renaud, the film has earned an approval rating of 54 percent based on 110 reviews to date on the review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, and an "A" on an "A+" to "F" scale from audiences polled by the market research firm CinemaScore.

Disney and Pixar's animated film "Inside Out 2" moved to second place with 30 million dollars on its fourth weekend, pushing its North American cume to 533.8 million dollars for a worldwide total of 1,216.9 million dollars.

Rounding out the top three, Paramount's sci-fi horror film "A Quiet Place: Day One" earned 21 million dollars on its second weekend for a North American cume of 94.4 million dollars. Enditem
