ULAN BATOR, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The 18th edition of Mongolia's annual national costume festival kicked off in the national capital Ulan Bator on Tuesday, with the aim of promoting tourism, showcasing traditional attire internationally, and fostering a renewed interest among the younger generation in wearing their heritage clothing.
According to the capital city's Department of Tourism, several thousands of people dressed in traditional costumes from Mongolia, China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, as well as Russia, participated in the festival titled "Mongolians in Deel" at the central square of Ulan Bator.
The "deel" is a traditional Mongolian garment that has been worn for centuries.
The one-day festival features a variety of activities, including a fashion parade, a contest for the best deel, a national clothing exhibition, as well as a folk music concert and dance performances. Enditem
