STRASBOURG, France -- The European Parliament on Thursday approved Germany's Ursula von der Leyen's bid for a second five-year term as president of the European Commission.

Von der Leyen garnered 401 votes in the 720-seat chamber, exceeding the majority required to maintain her position as the head of the EU's executive body. In the secret ballot, 284 members voted against her. (EU Commission-Parliament)

NEW DELHI -- Two people died and several others were injured when some coaches of a passenger train derailed in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, local media reported.

BEIRUT -- Two people were killed and nine others injured on Thursday in a traffic accident in Lebanon's northern village of Jran in Batroun district, the National News Agency reported.

TUNIS -- Two people were killed and ten others injured when a heavy goods vehicle hit a cafe terrace in the southwest of the capital Tunis, Tunisian national radio station reported on Thursday.
