JAKARTA, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has broadened its mineral and coal online tracking system, Simbara, to encompass nickel and tin commodities.

"Building on the success of Simbara for coal commodities, today we begin expanding it to include nickel and tin," said Isa Rachmatarwata, director general of budget at the Ministry of Finance, on Monday.

Launched in 2022, this system has contributed up to 7.1 trillion rupiah (around 437 million U.S. dollars) in state revenues through the prevention of illegal mining, risk profiling, and an automatic blocking system.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati highlighted that Indonesia's mineral commodities hold a vital position in the world's geopolitical constellation.

"Therefore, if we can organize it better, we will achieve maximum impact for the prosperity of the people," she said.

Indonesia hosts 21 million tons or 24 percent of the world's nickel reserves. The Southeast Asian nation also holds up to 800,000 tons or 23 percent of global tin reserves, ranking second worldwide.

In 2023, the archipelagic nation produced 1.8 million metric tons of nickel, accounting for 50 percent of global production.

Similarly, in the same year, Indonesia mined 78,000 tons of tin, comprising 22 percent of global production and ranking second worldwide. Enditem
