RIGA, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The actual unemployment rate in Latvia fell to 6.5 percent at the end of June, down 0.1 percentage points from a month earlier, according to a labor force survey released by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) on Monday.

However, compared with a year ago, the actual unemployment rate has not changed.

In Latvia's male population, unemployment declined 0.3 percentage points to 6.8 percent, while unemployment among women was unchanged at 6.1 percent.

In June 2024, there were 62,000 unemployed people, including 29,400 women and 32,600 men. This number dropped by 900 from May, but grew by 500 against June 2023, the national statistics office said.

Latvia's registered unemployment rate was 5.1 percent of the economically active population at the end of June, down 0.1 percentage points from the end of May, the State Employment Agency (SEA) said earlier this month.

The SEA calculates the registered unemployment rate by using its own data on registered unemployed persons, and CSB data on active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age. The actual unemployment rate is estimated indirectly, based on the quarterly Labor Force Survey results compiled by the CSB and SEA monthly data on registered unemployed persons. Enditem
