BEIRUT, July 25 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli airstrike killed a Hezbollah member and wounded two others on Thursday in the village of Rab Thalathine in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The sources, who spoke anonymously, reported that an Israeli drone fired two air-to-surface missiles targeting the vicinity of the cemetery in Rab Thalathine in the eastern sector of the border area in southern Lebanon.

A civil defense ambulance transported the body of the deceased, identified as Abdullah Mohammad Fakih, and the two wounded to a hospital in the border area. The cemetery and nearby homes were also damaged.

Military sources noted that Israeli warplanes and air forces conducted three raids on Thursday on three towns and villages in the eastern sector of the border area.

Israeli artillery also bombed seven towns and villages in the eastern, central, and western sectors with about 35 shells, causing material damage and three fires that Civil Defense worked to extinguish.

Early on Thursday, resistance fighters fired anti-aircraft missiles at Israeli warplanes inside Lebanese airspace, forcing them to retreat behind the Lebanese border with Israel, according to Hezbollah.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. Israel retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon. Enditem
