PRAGUE -- A bear attacked a cyclist on a forest path in northern Slovakia's Zilina region, the State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic (SOP) said on Thursday.

The 34-year-old man suffered injuries to his upper and lower limbs during the attack near the town of Turany on Wednesday evening, the SOP said in a statement. "The patient had deep lacerations and a bone fracture and underwent surgery. He is receiving comprehensive treatment and remains hospitalized," it added. (Slovakia-Bear attack)

KIEV -- The National Bank of Ukraine on Thursday raised the country's gross domestic product (GDP) growth expectation for this year from 3 percent to 3.7 percent.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications has teamed up with a local private company to develop an advanced digital business licensing system, also known as e-filing, to further facilitate the business operations of enterprises.

TOKYO -- Japan on Thursday downgraded its assessment of exports for the first time in six months to "almost flat" in July, a government report showed.

In its monthly economic report for July, the Cabinet Office offered a bleaker view on exports but retained its overall economic assessment for the sixth straight month, noting "Japan's economy is recovering at a moderate pace, although it recently appears to be pausing." BEIRUT -- An Israeli airstrike killed a Hezbollah member and wounded two others on Thursday in the village of Rab Thalathine in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The sources, who spoke anonymously, reported that an Israeli drone fired two air-to-surface missiles targeting the vicinity of the cemetery in Rab Thalathine in the eastern sector of the border area in southern Lebanon. (Israel-Lebanon-Conflict) Enditem
