BUCHAREST -- The World Bank Group's Board of Executive Directors has approved development loan totalling 599.1 million euros (650.5 million U.S. dollars) for Romania to support its economic and environmental sustainability.

The loan is aimed at helping Romania promote fiscal consolidation and sustainability, and increase pension system equity, said the bank group in a statement Thursday. (Romania-Loan-World Bank)

TOKYO -- Core consumer prices in Japan's capital rose 2.2 percent in July from a year earlier, climbing for the 35th consecutive month, government data showed Friday.

The core consumer price index (CPI), which excludes volatile fresh food prices, stood at 107.4 for Tokyo's 23 densely populated wards, against the 2020 base of 100, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. (Japan-CPI-July)

BRASILIA -- Brazil's revenue collection hit a record high of 1.289 trillion reals (228.57 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half of the year, up by 9 percent year on year, the Federal Revenue service said Thursday in its latest report.

Brazil's public-sector earnings also jumped 11 percent to reach a record high in June of 208.8 billion reals (37.04 billion dollars), said the report. (Brazil-Tax-Increase)

WELLINGTON -- The average New Zealand household's cost of living increased by 5.4 percent in the 12 months to the June 2024 quarter, following a 6.2-percent increase in the 12 months to the March 2024 quarter, the statistics department Stats NZ said on Friday.
