VILNIUS, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Lithuania is set to allocate an additional 20 million euros (about 21.7 million U.S. dollars) this year for the acquisition of various types of combat and reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), Defense Minister Laurynas Kasciunas announced on Friday.

The decision was made after meeting with Finance Minister Gintare Skaiste, Kasciunas said on Facebook.

According to Kasciunas, the money will be used to buy drones and train drone instructors and operators for the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

"This will allow us to reach a new qualitative level in the process of training drone instructors," he said.

As part of efforts to develop drone capabilities, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry has already allocated 10 million euros (10.8 million dollars) to Lithuanian UAV manufacturers this year. Enditem
