Myanmar hosts 4th BIMSTEC security chiefs' meeting

YANGON, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar hosted the Fourth Meeting of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) National Security Chiefs in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday, the state-run daily The Mirror reported on Saturday.

The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials from BIMSTEC member countries and focused on traditional and non-traditional security challenges in the Bay of Bengal region, according to the report.

Additionally, the report said that the meeting has discussed matters related to counter-terrorism, transnational crime, anti-narcotics processes, maritime and cyber security challenges, national security, and effective information sharing.

The national security chiefs of BIMSTEC member countries also discussed the current security situation in the region and strategies to prepare for future security challenges, the report said.

BIMSTEC groups seven nations of South Asia and Southeast Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Enditem
