Philippine trade chief resigns

MANILA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) of the Philippines Wednesday confirmed the resignation of Alfredo Pascual as secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, effective on Aug. 2.

The PCO said Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos accepted Pascual's resignation after meeting him at the presidential palace.

"The search for a successor will commence immediately to ensure a seamless transition and continuity in the department's initiatives," the PCO said in a statement.

Marcos appointed Pascual, 76, as trade secretary in June 2022. Enditem
