PARIS, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Canada's Summer McIntosh seized her second gold medal of the Paris Olympics by winning the women's 200m butterfly final on Thursday.

McIntosh blew away her rivals to finish in two minutes, 3.03 seconds, 0.81 seconds faster than American Regan Smith, who took silver. China's Zhang Yufei claimed bronze in 2:05.09.

McIntosh, who also won gold in the 400m individual medley on Sunday, beat the previous Olympic record of 2:03.86 set by Zhang in Tokyo three years ago.

"It means the world," the 17-year-old said. "That was definitely one of my favorite races."

McIntosh joins French superstar Leon Marchand as the only swimmers to secure multiple individual gold medals at Paris 2024 so far. She is also one of the favorites in the 200m individual medley.

"It's pretty surreal. I haven't reflected on it too much right now," McIntosh said of her success in Paris. "Overall, it's been a pretty amazing Games for me, but yeah, I'm not done yet.

"I'll have lots of time to celebrate with my friends and family after but right now I'm just keeping it simple."

She added: "I'll try to rest my brain as much as I do my body and that's kind of what works best for me to prepare for my following races.

"I think a lot of the times I do very well at big meets like this is just because I can feed off the crowd and knowing my family is out there and being able to represent Canada." Enditem
