QALAT, Afghanistan, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed and three others went missing after heavy rains triggered flash floods in south Afghanistan's Zabul province on Sunday night, a local official said Monday.

The floods swept through most parts of the province's Shinkay District and the provincial capital of Qalat city. According to an initial report, a woman and three children were among the deceased, and one person was injured, said Zabihullah Jawhar, spokesperson for the provincial police.

Without providing details, Jawhar said the floods also caused heavy losses of property to local residents, washing away their farmland crops, residential houses and livestock animals.

Storms and floods killed more than 40 people and injured some 350 others in the eastern Nangarhar province in July. Enditem
