MADRID, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona have confirmed on Friday the signing of Spain international forward Dani Olmo from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, with a reported fee of 50 million euros.

Olmo has agreed a contract until the summer of 2030 and with a release clause of 500 million euros, after leaving RB Leipzig, where he scored 29 goals in 148 appearances.

"You will always be in my heart," posted the striker in message for his former fans on social media.

The 26-year-old has had a roundabout career, spending time in the Espanyol and Barcelona youth systems before joining Croatian side, Dinamo Zagreb, where he played for their second team, before making 124 first team appearances and scoring 34 goals.

Despite never playing first team football in Spain, he made his debut for the Spanish national team against Malta in November 2019 and has played 39 times for his country, netting 11 goals.

Olmo played exceptionally well in Spain's successful European Championship campaign, slotting into a role behind the forwards, scoring three goals and also providing a couple of assists.

The arrival of the forward to Barcelona will stretch the club's finances, given their debts of over 1,000 million euros and the need to meet LaLiga's strict financial fair play requirements.

Barcelona have spent the summer attempting to sign winger, Nico Williams from Athletic Club Bilbao, but those efforts appear to have been frustrated by William's early return to training with the Basque club and a message that he is looking forward to the season which kicks off in just over a week.
