5 dead, dozens injured in stampede in eastern India

NEW DELHI, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- At least five persons, including three women, died, and over two dozen were injured in a stampede at a temple in India's eastern state of Bihar early on Monday, confirmed a local cop over the phone.

The mishap occurred when a large number of devotees gathered to offer prayers at a temple in the state's Jehanabad district on the occasion of the fourth Monday of the Hindu calendar month "Saawan."

The injured were rushed to a local hospital. Further details were awaited. Enditem
