SEOUL, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's automotive export fell for the second straight month due to lower global demand for eco-friendly vehicles, government data showed Thursday.

Car shipment declined 9.1 percent from a year earlier to 5.37 billion U.S. dollars in July after slipping 0.4 percent in the previous month, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

For the first seven months of this year, the automotive export reached 42.38 billion dollars, up 2.0 percent compared to the same period of 2023.

The number of exported vehicles was 199,018 in July, down 13.4 percent from a year earlier.

Export for eco-friendly sedans dipped 7.2 percent to 1.86 billion dollars last month, but auto parts shipment gained 9.5 percent to 2.22 billion dollars.

The number of vehicles, manufactured in local factories, dropped 17.6 percent to 290,910 in July on a yearly basis.

The number of cars sold domestically, including locally-made and imported vehicles, came to 132,396 in July, down 2.7 percent from a year earlier. Enditem
