NEW DELHI, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- An Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jet accidentally released an air store Wednesday at the Pokhran firing range in the western Indian state of Rajasthan, officials said.

The IAF described the incident as "inadvertent" and said no loss of life or damage was reported.

"An enquiry by the IAF has been ordered to investigate into the incident. No damage to life or property has been reported," reads a statement issued by the IAF.

The air store refers to external equipment or munitions attached to a fighter jet's hard points that are located in its underbelly. These air stores can be jettisoned during combat missions.

IAF has not revealed the exact nature of the air store or the aircraft involved.

The Pokhran firing range is located in the Thar desert and is an isolated area about 463 km west of Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. The firing range is used by the Indian military to test weapons and conduct firing exercises. Enditem
