Malaysia's inflation up 2 pct in July

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's inflation increased 2 percent year on year in July and remained unchanged since May, official data showed Thursday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that rise of inflation in July was driven by the growth in the main groups of restaurant and accommodation services (3.4 percent); personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services (3.2 percent); recreation, sports and culture (2.2 percent) and health (1.9 percent).

Meanwhile, food and beverages, which contributes 29.8 percent of the total consumer price index (CPI) weight, went up 1.6 percent in July.

According to the DOSM, the overall monthly inflation for July recorded a slower increase of 0.1 percent.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's core inflation rose 1.9 percent in July, the same rate as recorded in June. Enditem
