BANGKOK -- Five Chinese nationals were confirmed dead in a small plane crash in Thailand's eastern province of Chachoengsao on Thursday, the Chinese embassy in Thailand told Xinhua, citing Thai authorities.

The Cessna Caravan C208B aircraft, flight number TFT 209 of the Thai Flying Service, lost contact with the Suvarnabhumi Air Traffic Control Center in the capital Bangkok before crashing. JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- Six people lost their lives and four others were injured following a landmine blast in east Afghanistan's Nangarhar province on Thursday afternoon, local police said.

The incident occurred in the Dara-i-Nur District when a landmine exploded in a car carrying teachers and students from a religious school in Nuristan province, Abdul Basir Zabuli, spokesman for the provincial police department, told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Blast)

SEOUL -- Six people were killed and 11 others injured as a fire broke out at a South Korean hotel, multiple local media said Thursday citing the fire authorities and the police.

The fire broke out at a nine-story hotel in Bucheon, some 20 km southwest of the capital Seoul, at about 7:39 p.m. local time (1039 GMT). (S.Korea-Hotel Fire)

TOKYO -- Typhoon No. 10 has formed near the Mariana islands in the Pacific Ocean and is expected to reach the Japanese archipelago next week, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said on Thursday.

According to the JMA, the newly formed typhoon was slowly moving northwestward on Thursday morning and is expected to reach south of Japan on Sunday and bring strong winds to Japan from the Kyushu to Tokai regions early next week. (Japan-Typhoon) Enditem
