RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Gonzalo Mastriani and Lucas Di Yorio scored second-half goals as 10-man Athletico Paranaense progressed to the Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals with a 2-0 win at Belgrano on Thursday.

The Brazilian side suffered a major blow in the 21st minute of the round of 16 second leg clash when Lucas Esquivel was sent off for violent conduct.

But the numerical disadvantage did little to curb the Brazilian side's dominance at Mario Kempes Stadium in Cordoba, Argentina.

Gonzalo Mastriani put the visitors ahead by capitalizing on poor defending to slot home on the counterattack.

Di Yorio made it 2-0 when he completed a slick attacking move with a first-time finish from 10 yards in the 89th minute.

The result gave Paranaense a 4-1 victory on aggregate following the Curitiba-based club's 2-1 win in last week's first leg.

The Copa Sudamericana is South America's equivalent of the UEFA Europa League. The winner will earn an automatic berth in next year's Copa Libertadores, the continent's premier club competition. Enditem
