MADRID, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Girona continue to strengthen their squad for the new LaLiga season with a club record fee for 20-year-old Colombian winger Yaser Asprilla for around 25 million euros (28 million US dollars).

Asprilla arrives from English Championship side Watford, after scoring six goals in 47 appearances for the second-tier club last season and Girona hope he will help fill the gap left by Savinho, who joined Manchester City after impressing last season.

Girona have seen off competition from teams such as Leicester City, Rennes and Porto to sign the forward as they prepare for their first-ever appearance in the Champions League after finishing third in Spain last season.

Although they have lost players such as Savinho, Yan Couto, Eric Garcia, Artem Dovbyk, Pablo Torre and Aleix Garcia over the summer, Girona have worked hard to replace them, with midfielder Oriol Romeu returning, while they have also added Donny van de Beek, Bryan Gil, Abel Ruiz and Ladislav Krejci to their squad.
