BARCELONA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- America's Cup holders Emirates Team New Zealand showed their dominance in the second day of the preliminary regattas in Barcelona on Friday.

The New Zealand crew won their opening race against INEOS Britannia by 52 seconds, and didn't need to compete in their second race of the day against France's Orient Express Racing Team, with their rivals forced to retire for a "major issue," which won't stop Orient Express competing on Saturday.

Blair Tuke, the flight controller and trimmer for Emirates Team New Zealand, was content with the opening performance.

"We had a great start against INEOS," he said. "It was a well-executed start."

"We are trying to get as much out of every race as we can and we've certainly done that so far."

INEOS Britannia captain Ben Ainslie admitted his yacht had "made a mess" of their start and admitted he was "obviously disappointed with the start." The British have made without a win so far.

Friday's other two races saw American yacht NYYC American Magic win over the Swiss Alinghi Red Bull Racing by 56 seconds.

However, they lost their leg against the Italians of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli where they went down to a 40-second defeat.

"We did a great job of that in the first race, got off clean, and managed to get our nose just in front. From there we sailed really well," said Paul Goodison, who is port helm on the American yacht, before admitting things "didn't go our way," in the second race.

"The Italians did a good job of holding us outside the line, which was tough for us," said Goodison, while Francesco Bruni, helmsman for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, considered it was a "positive phase for the team, and for sure the boat is going well. The team is sailing well, but we have to stay focused because things can change very quickly from one day to another and we know that all the teams are looking at us." Enditem
