MADRID, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona have lightened their wage bill with the confirmation of loan deals for Brazilian forward Vitor Roque and central defender Clement Lenglet on Monday.

The 29-year-old Lenglet has joined Atletico Madrid for the season and will further strengthen Diego Simeone's side. He was at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday night to watch Atletico's 3-0 win at home to Girona.

The defender makes his move after signing a contract extension with Barca until June 2027, although this is more an act of financial juggling that allows his wages at the club to be spread over the next three years, thus lightening Barca's annual wage bill as they look to adapt to financial fair play regulations.

Roque has also joined Betis on a season's loan, with Betis having a right to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign for around 30 million euros.

Roque is another failed signing for Barcelona, joining the club in January, but making only a handful of first-team appearances, with neither former coach, Xavi Hernandez, nor the current incumbent, Hansi Flick counting on his for the first team. Enditem
