HONG KONG, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 jolted 28 km WSW of Ishkashim, Afghanistan at 0556 GMT on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 224.3 km, was initially determined to be at 36.54 degrees north latitude and 71.27 degrees east longitude.
Earlier, the GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences reported the earthquake occurred in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region, and later revised the magnitude from 5.4 to 5.0.
