DHAKA -- The death toll from devastating floods that have ravaged southeastern Bangladesh for weeks reached 52 on Thursday, according to a report of the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, as millions of people remained cut off in parts of the country.

Twenty-one more flood-related deaths were reported in Bangladesh on Thursday, raising the toll from the current flooding to 52, according to the National Disaster Response Coordination Center under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. (Bangladesh-Flood)

KABUL -- At least 26 children under five have died due to malnutrition and inadequate food in north Afghanistan's Badakhshan province over the past five months, a hospital source said Thursday.

According to local medical doctor Abdul Malik Rofi, 365 children under five have been admitted to the hospital in Badakhshan during this period, with 26 of them succumbing to malnutrition, the Afghan media outlet TOLO news reported on Thursday. (Afghanistan-Malnutrition-Children)

TOKYO -- A total of 37,227 people living alone died at home in Japan in the first half of 2024, official data showed.

JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government has established mpox screening at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali in preparation for Indonesia-Africa Forum due on Sept. 1-3.
