LJUBLJANA, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's annual inflation stood at 0.9 percent in August, falling below one percent for the first time in over three years, the country's Statistical Office said on Friday.

"Prices of services increased on average by 4.1 percent on an annual level, while prices of goods fell by 0.7 percent," the office said in a report.

The biggest hike in prices was recorded in hotels and restaurants where they were up by 6.7 percent year on year.

Many analysts expect inflation to increase next year as the government plans to start a gradual increase of all public sector wages from January 2025. Slovenian doctors and dentists have been on a partial strike since January, demanding hefty wage hikes, while teachers' trade union also claims schools are not able to hire enough teachers due to poor wages.

The average pre-tax wage in Slovenia reached 2,367 euros (2616 U.S. dollars) in June and was 5.2 percent higher than in the same month last year, the Statistical Office said last week. Enditem
