NEW DELHI, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in torrential rains that hit India's southern states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has risen to 27, officials said Monday.

The rains that started on Saturday and continued throughout Sunday triggered flooding and waterlogging in several areas, disrupting road and rail traffic.

At least 15 people were killed in Telangana and 12 in Andhra Pradesh.

Rivers and water bodies in both states continued to swell dangerously.

Rescuers from the State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force in both states evacuated thousands of people from flooded areas and shifted them to relief camps.

In the wake of waterlogging and submerged tracks at multiple locations, the south central railway network canceled over 100 trains and diverted several others. Enditem
