TOKYO -- Japan's weather agency said Monday that the country witnessed its joint hottest summer this year since records began, tying the previous record logged in 2023.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the national average temperature between June and August was 1.76 degrees Celsius higher than the standard value, the joint highest since records began in 1898 and making it the hottest summer in two consecutive years. (Japan-Hottest Summer)

MANILA -- Floods and landslides triggered by tropical storm Yagi have killed at least 10 people and left at least one missing, authorities said Monday.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand and Malaysia released a joint statement on Monday to strengthen their relationship across defense and security, education, trade and people-to-people connections.

The two countries are committed to close cooperation on countering terrorism and combatting transnational organized crime, said a New Zealand government statement after New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon met with his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, in Malaysia. JAKARTA -- The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, locally known as Whoosh, has served 4.2 million passengers within the 10 months from its inauguration in October 2023 to July 2024, according to PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) President Director Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi on Sunday.

SYDNEY -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 jolted 57 km south of Panguna, Papua New Guinea at 06:13:34 on Monday local time (20:13:34 GMT on Sunday), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

BALI, Indonesia -- The second Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF), organized by the Indonesian government, officially opened on Monday in Bali, Indonesia's renowned resort island.
