JERUSALEM, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Israeli football champions Maccabi Tel Aviv announced on Wednesday the signing of Brazilian striker Weslley Patati to a three-season contract.
The Israeli club did not disclose the transfer fee, but local reports indicate that the club paid Brazil's FC Santos around 1.3 million euros for the 20-year-old player.
Since 2019, Patati has played for Santos' youth teams and also participated in 33 matches for the senior team, scoring two goals.
Including his youth team appearances, Patati contributed 18 goals in 65 matches for the club. He also has two caps for the Brazil under-18 team.
In early 2022, before making his debut for Santos' senior team, there were reports of interest from Manchester City and Real Madrid in the player, who was then dubbed "the Jewel of Santos."
Following his signing with Maccabi, Patati said, "Meeting my new teammates, entering the stadium, and, of course, meeting the fans of this amazing club is something I can't wait to do."
Maccabi Tel Aviv will compete this season in the UEFA Europa League, facing teams including Braga, Midtjylland, Real Sociedad, Ajax, Besiktas, FK RFS, Bodo/Glimt, and Porto. Enditem
