ADEN, Yemen -- Yemen's Houthi group said Saturday their air defenses have successfully shot down an American MQ-9 drone over the northeastern province of Marib.

The downing of the drone, the eighth of its kind shot down by the armed group, was carried out "in victory for the oppressed Palestinian people and in response to the American-British aggression against Yemen," Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a statement. (Yemen-Houthis-U.S. Drone)

JERUSALEM -- Two battalion commanders of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement were killed in a recent Israeli airstrike in the central Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Saturday.

The IDF said that Israeli aircraft on Thursday carried out a "precise strike" on a command and control center in the city of Deir al-Balah used by Hamas and PIJ militants. The attack killed "a number of" militants, including Abdallah Khatib, commander of the PIJ's Southern Deir al-Balah Battalion, who commanded the battalion's operations in the Oct. 7 attacks in southern Israel, according to the statement. BEIRUT -- Three personnel of the Lebanese Civil Defense were killed and two others wounded on Saturday in an Israeli drone strike on southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese military sources.

The sources, who spoke anonymously, told Xinhua that an Israeli drone fired an air-to-ground missile at a group of Civil Defense personnel who were trying to extinguish a fire caused by a previous Israeli airstrike on Wadi Froun in the border area of southern Lebanon. ALGIERS -- Algerians headed to polls on Saturday to elect their next president, with more than 23 million citizens in the country eligible to cast their ballots.

Voting began early in the day, with polling stations nationwide opening at 8:00 a.m. local time (0700 GMT). Mobile polling stations have been in operation since Wednesday to access remote areas, while overseas voting commenced on Monday, catering to over 800,000 Algerians living abroad.
