NEW DELHI, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers early Sunday pulled four more bodies from the debris of a collapsed building in the northern Indian city of Lucknow, taking the death toll to eight, police said.

Around 30 people were rescued and undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

The three-storey building collapsed on Saturday evening in Transport Nagar area of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.

"Eight people have been declared dead and nearly 30 others were admitted to different hospitals, and some of them have been discharged," senior police officer Amit Verma told media. "The rescue operation is still underway to ensure that none remains trapped beneath."

Verma said a committee will be formed to investigate the cause of the accident.

Reports said the 15-year-old building was used for pharmaceuticals wholesale trading.

The building collapsed following an intense rainfall that caused waterlogging in surrounding areas.

Deadly accidents are common due to failing infrastructure in India. Construction experts blame lax administration and corruption for flouting building rules. Enditem
