HANOI -- As of Monday noon, Typhoon Yagi and consequent landslides and floods have left 59 people dead and missing in Vietnam's northern region, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said.
The natural disasters also injured 247 people, including 157 in Quang Ninh province and 40 in Hai Phong City; sank 25 unmanned vessels, mostly fishing boats; damaged over 113,000 hectares of rice and more than 22,000 hectares of other crops; damaged or swept away 1,500 aquaculture cages; killed 190,000 fowls; and uprooted or damaged nearly 121,700 trees, the ministry said. JAKARTA -- Indonesia's President Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, will start from Tuesday working at the newly built presidential palace in the country's new capital Nusantara, an official said.
Presidential spokesperson Hasan Nasbi told local media on Monday that President Jokowi will be working from Nusantara until the day before the end of his term on Oct. 20, when he will pass over his position to Prabowo Subianto, the winner of the presidential polls in February. WELLINGTON -- New Zealand Defense Force has been contributing to a multinational team in the Solomon Islands to safely dispose of explosive remnants from the World War II, a force statement said on Monday.
Up to 250 personnel from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Britain and the United States have been supporting explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) experts from the Solomon Islands Police to dispose of the munitions under Operation Render Safe, led by the Australian Defense Force. TOKYO -- The extraction of melted fuel debris from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant will be resumed on Tuesday, the plant's operator reported on Monday.
