KIEV -- Visiting U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Wednesday announced new aid packages for Ukraine, local media reported.

Speaking at a press conference in Kiev, Blinken said that the United States would provide more than 700 million U.S. dollars for Ukraine in fresh assistance, the Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported. (Ukraine-Aid)

PRAGUE -- Heavy rains are expected to hit the Czech Republic in the second half of this week and are likely to cause widespread watercourse flooding over a large part of the country, with the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMU) issuing a flood warning on Wednesday.

"During the next few days, at least until Sunday, the weather in our country will be influenced by a pressure low associated with a frontal break-up, which will bring significant rainfalls to most of the territory," the CHMU said. (Czech Republic-Flood warning)

AMMAN -- Jordan's Independent Election Commission Chairman Musa Maaytah announced on Wednesday preliminary results from the country's 20th parliamentary election.

ISLAMABAD -- A polio worker and a policeman were killed in firing by unknown gunmen in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, according to police officials on Wednesday.

Unknown miscreants riding on a motorcycle opened fire at a polio vaccination team in Salarzai area of Bajaur district of the province, said the police in the area. (Pakistan-Attack-Polio) Enditem
