Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery exports top 40 bln USD in 8 months

HANOI, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery exports reached 40.08 billion U.S. dollars in the first eight months of this year, an increase of 18.6 percent year on year, Vietnam News reported on Thursday, citing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Agricultural exports brought home 21.32 billion dollars, up 24 percent, while forestry exports earned 10.97 billion dollars, up 19.7 percent, fishery exports 6.23 billion dollars, up 7.6 percent, and livestock exports 324 million dollars, up 0.3 percent.

Exports to Asia reached 19 billion dollars during the cited period, up 15.7 percent year on year, to the Americas hit 9.3 billion dollars, up 22.3 percent, and to Europe reached 4.8 billion dollars, up 30.5 percent.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said agricultural, forestry and fishery exports were expected to meet the prime minister's target of 54 billion dollars for the year, laying a solid foundation for relatively stable growth of the agriculture sector in 2024.
