RAMALLAH, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army killed a Palestinian and detained 40 others in the West Bank, said Palestinian sources on Thursday.

A 46-year-old Palestinian man identified as Sufyan Abdul Jawad died after being shot in the heart by an Israeli sniper in Far'a refugee camp south of northern West Bank's city of Tubas, Palestinian medical sources told Xinhua.

Israeli forces stormed the camp as its military operation in Tubas continued for the second day in a row, local sources and eyewitnesses said.

The Israeli army has not commented on the incident.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Club said in a joint statement that the Israeli army arrested at least 40 Palestinians across the West Bank from Wednesday to Thursday morning.

The majority of the arrests were made in Tubas and southern West Bank's city of Hebron, said the statement.

The West Bank has witnessed an escalation in tension since the outbreak of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023.

According to the Palestinian health ministry, Israel's large-scale raid across northern West Bank starting from Aug. 28 has killed over 40 Palestinians and injured more than 140. Enditem
