CAIRO, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Kuwaiti counterpart Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya stressed here on Thursday the urgent need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and called for an agreement to release hostages and detainees and ensure full, unconditional access to humanitarian and medical aid in Gaza.

During the 13th session of the Egyptian-Kuwaiti Joint Committee, the two ministers emphasized the severity of Israel's escalation, and underlined their categorical rejection of any plans to displace Palestinians from their land, according to a statement released by Egypt's Foreign Ministry.

They also explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and discussed issues including the situations in Lebanon, Libya, Sudan, and Yemen, as well as the security of international navigation in the Red Sea.

Al-Yahya also expressed his appreciation for Egypt's efforts, in collaboration with Qatar and the United States, to secure a truce deal between Israel and Hamas.

During the meeting, the two sides signed 10 memoranda of understanding to enhance bilateral cooperation in tourism, housing, media, youth and sports, planning and development, competition protection, industrial exports, environmental protection, and diplomatic institute collaboration. Enditem
