BEIRUT, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- A Hezbollah member was killed and two others wounded on Monday in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese military sources.

The military sources, who spoke anonymously, told Xinhua that an Israeli warplane targeted a two-story house in the village of Houla with four air-to-ground missiles.

The airstrike destroyed the building and five neighboring houses, killing Hezbollah member Mohammad Ibrahim Yassin and wounding two others.

The civil defense crew and the members of the Islamic Health Authority worked to transfer the casualties to a hospital in the border area in southern Lebanon, remove the rubble, and extinguish a fire breaking out in the targeted area and its surroundings, the sources said.

Also, an Israeli drone fired several bombs at an orchard surrounding the village of Wazzani, east of southern Lebanon, and two Syrian farmers working in the orchard were not hurt, the sources said.

According to the sources, Israeli warplanes and drones carried out four airstrikes on Monday on three villages and towns in the border area in southern Lebanon, and the Israeli artillery shelled 10 towns and villages in southern Lebanon with about 50 shells.

Lebanese army sites monitored the launch of a barrage of Katyusha rockets and several drones from the Lebanese side into northern Israel, the sources added.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah said in a statement that the Islamic Resistance, its military wing, targeted Israeli soldiers in the vicinity of the Al-Motella Israeli settlement with rocket weapons and hit them directly.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border have escalated since Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon. Enditem
