RIGA, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- A delegation of around 100 Latvian entrepreneurs led by President Edgars Rinkevics embarked on a trade mission to the United States on Monday, aiming to attract investment, the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) announced on its website.

Latvian Economics Minister Viktors Valainis also accompanied the delegation. He noted that this is the largest business delegation from Latvia to visit America, hoping that the trade mission will succeed in attracting investment worth at least 1 billion euros (about 1.11 billion U.S. dollars) for his country, according to the national news agency LETA.

The LIAA, a subordinate to the Ministry of Economics, indicated that the trade mission aims to create conditions for stepping up economic exchange to double trade turnover with the United States to 1.9 billion euros (about 2.11 billion dollars) over the next five years. It is also expected that the companies visiting America could increase their trade turnover with their U.S. counterparts by 15 percent over the year.

Meanwhile, concerning investment, the goal of the visit is to identify at least three new investment projects with a total value of 150 million euros (about 166.5 million dollars).

The first stop of the trade mission is Houston, where Valainis, businessmen, and LIAA representatives will meet with U.S. companies and potential investors in the energy sector. Then they will visit San Francisco and conclude their mission on Sept. 24 in Denver. Enditem
